Lady Gaga parties in the desert in the frenetic video for “Perfect Illusion.”

With a microphone in hand, Gaga unleashes pent-up frustration over love gone awry, kicking sand around in short shorts and midriff-baring tops. “It wasn’t love,” she sings, while dancing in front of fans. “It was a perfect illusion.”

Directed by Andrea Gelardin and Ruth Hogben, the vid also features cameos from Gaga collaborators Mark Ronson, Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker, and BloodPop. However, in the end, the singer finds herself alone, rolling around in the desert. Was it all just an illusion?

“Perfect Illusion” is the lead single off Gaga’s upcoming album Joanne, due Oct. 21, featuring appearances by the aforementioned artists, along with Josh Homme, Father John Misty, and Hillary Lindsey.

Gaga has said that Joanne, her ode to a deceased aunt and her first solo album since 2013’s ARTPOP, will be “personal.” “Every single song…is extremely autobiographical,” she recently told Beats 1.
