New Music: Childish Gambino - 'Me and Your Mama'

Childish Gambino awakens. Hours after the rapper-actor released the cover art for his new album Awaken, My Love!, the first single has surfaced.

“Me and Your Mama” arrives just in time to prep listeners for Awaken’s Dec. 2 release date. It’s a six-minute song with a two-minute intro and a two-minute outro sans Gambino. The two minutes in between appear to be the heart of a breakup anthem, which acts as the album’s opening cut.

“They want to see us falling apart,” he sings, with a pained strain on his voice. “You know that I love you. So let me into your heart. This is the end of us.”

The tracklisting features 11 songs, including “Boogieman,” “Zombies,” and “The Night Me and Your Mama Met.”

This will be Gambino’s first release since 2014’s STN MTN/Kauai.
