The Prince vault is open.
On Tuesday, “Good Morning America” shared a snippet of “Moonbeam Levels,” the first unreleased track from the late icon’s Paisley Park vault.
“Maybe he wants affection instead of a plastic life,” sings Prince. “Maybe he doesn’t know what he wants at all.”
Although it is being billed as a never-before-heard track, the song was apparently leaked in the mid-’80s.
“Moonbeam Levels” was reportedly recorded on July 6, 1982 as part of the Purple One’s 1999 sessions and is now on Prince 4Ever, a 40-song greatest hits collection that is being released today via Amazon and brick-and-mortar shops, according to The StarTribune.
This is the first release since Prince’s passing in April and there is more on the way. Next year, a special edition of Purple Rain is set to drop along with an album of unreleased music from the Paisley Park vault, which is reportedly worth around $300 million.
