Ashanti and Ja Rule Perform 'Helpless' at The Apollo

  /  12.06.2016

Ashanti and Ja Rule brought Hamilton to the famed Apollo Theater. Side-by-side, in front of dazzling purple lights, the former Murder Inc. labelmates performed “Helpless” off the recently-released Hamilton Mixtape.

Wearing a stunning colorful sequined dress, Ashanti sang the remix of the Broadway hit she and Rule inspired. Meanwhile, Ja came through with a verse as Alexander Hamilton at the end.

The Roots also brought some Hamilton flavor to “The Tonight Show.” Enlisting Joell Ortiz and Busta Rhymes, the crew performed the standout “My Shot” single.

With a theatrical spin, Black Thought kicked things off in a boardroom setting. Once he hit the stage with The Roots, Joell was waiting at a podium. “You only get one shot,” he pleaded from center stage. “Take it or leave it.”

Sporting an extravagant fur-lined coat, Busta Rhymes emerged amongst a crowd of fans for a growl-filled third verse of empowerment. Finally, Joell, Thought, and Bus teamed up for the triumphant finale.

The Hamilton Mixtape, featuring appearances by Chance the Rapper, Usher, Alicia Keys, Nas, Queen Latifah, Aloe Blacc, and more, is out now.
