Drake’s ‘Summer Sixteen Tour’ Becomes Highest-Grossing Hip-Hop Tour Ever

Adding to his already-impressive list of 2016 achievements, Drake has announced that his “Summer Sixteen Tour” is the highest-grossing hip-hop trek in history.

According to Pollstar (via HipHopEarly), Drizzy’s Future-assisted jaunt grossed $84.3 million, selling more than 752,000 tickets at an average price of $112 per seat.

With this, the 6 God dethrones Jay Z and Kanye West’s “Watch the Throne Tour,” which grossed $75.6 million in 2012. This achievement comes despite the fact that “Summer Sixteen” boasted fewer dates (56) than “Watch the Throne” (63).

Although it was a major hip-hop tour, it wasn’t enough to nab a top 10 placement on the biggest tours list for the year in music. In order from highest to lowest, those slots were taken up by Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, Beyoncé, Coldplay, Guns N’ Roses, Adele, Justin Bieber, Paul McCartney, Garth Brooks, The Rolling Stones, and Celine Dion.

The report notes that other 2016 tours on the list were by Kanye West (No. 29, $52.8 million), Macklemore and Ryan Lewis (No. 75, $23.9 million), Salt-N-Pepa/Vanilla Ice (No. 79, $21 million), and Puff Daddy and the Family (No. 95, $17.5 million).

Drake celebrated the achievement by plugging his “Boy Meets World Tour,” which kicks off Jan. 21 in Amsterdam with special guest Young Thug.
