Video: Fantasia - 'When I Met You'
Fantasia transports viewers back in time in the video for “When I Met You,” a reflective cut off her 2016 album, The Definition Of…
It’s a trip down memory lane with ’90s-inspired yearbook photos and videos, telling the story of romance through the years, from puppy love to marriage.
While Tasia does appear in the video, the scenes are momentarily stolen by her daughter Zion, who portrays a younger version of her mom. “It was so beautiful to create this video with my first born Zion,” the singer wrote on Instagram. “You see that glow all over her? I’m a proud Mommy and can’t wait for her gifts to bless the world the way she blesses mine every single day.”
Fans will catch some flashback references throughout the clip, including nods to SWV and TLC. “The #WhenIMetYouVideo is #TheDefinitionOf that ’90s throwback vibe,” added Tasia. “A true era of music! I play the teenage version of myself (T-Boz cut and hoop earrings y’all) blinded by a false idea of love.”
A personal touch also ends the video as her husband, Kendall Taylor, appears as her groom in the final wedding scene.
“I met me, too, when I met you,” Fantasia says in the visual, wearing a gorgeous wedding gown. “I still remember the day, it was beautiful. And if I hadn’t went through the things I went through before then I wouldn’t know how special you are. My eyes would still be closed. Now, they’re wide open because I met you.”
Up next, Tasia is heading out on Charlie Wilson’s “In It to Win It” tour, starting Feb. 8 in Norfolk and ending March 25 in New Orleans. For now, watch her love story unfold in the video for “When I Met You” below.
