Frank Ocean Sued By His Father for $14.5 Million
Frank Ocean’s father Calvin Cooksey is suing the Blonde singer for allegedly besmirching his name, according to TMZ.
Cooksey’s defamation lawsuit reportedly cites a Tumblr post Ocean wrote last year, addressing the tragic Orlando mass shooting with a reflection of a traumatizing memory.
“I was six years old when I heard my dad call our transgender waitress a fa**ot as he dragged me out a neighborhood diner saying we wouldn’t be served because she was dirty,” he wrote. “That was the last afternoon I saw my father and the first time I heard that word, I think, although it wouldn’t shock me if it wasn’t.”
Cooksey says the post has hurt him in various ways. He believes it damaged opportunities he had in film and music and is now suing his son for $14.5 million.
This isn’t Cooksey’s first major lawsuit. In 2014, he sued Russell Simmons for $142 million for claims that he was a deadbeat father that were reportedly published on Global Grind.
