It’s Yeezy season once again. After the much-publicized launches of Season 3 and Season 4, Kanye West opted for a quieter rollout of his latest collection, Yeezy Season 5, during New York Fashion Week on Wednesday (Feb. 15).
Unlike the past two shows, this one did not include a live stream. According to E! Online, even some members of the press weren’t allowed at the event.
Although social media was reportedly banned, videos from inside still emerged online. Yeezy’s wife Kim Kardashian even shared footage via Snapchat, revealing 360-degree clips of models projected on a four-sided cube at the center of a square-shaped runway. After those projections were shown, the models walked to The-Dream’s version of J. Holiday’s hit “Bed,” which he penned.
The 13-minute show featured male and female models like Georgia Fowler, Amina Blue, and Luka Sabbat. Notably, Halima Aden made her Yeezy debut months after becoming the first Miss Minnesota contestant to compete in a hijab and burkini.
As for the clothes, this season featured shoutouts to West’s Calabasas, Calif. residence. Clips show a black-and-white windbreaker and a jacket with “Calabasas” written on them. A vermilion and orange tracksuit also features “Calabasas” sprawled on the sides. Nearby Lost Hills and Agoura are also referenced on some of this season’s items.
Taking a departure from his popular Yeezy Boosts, Kanye’s latest sneakers offer a different look. The new athletic shoes were on display in a green, orange, white, and grey variation. All white iterations have also been seen online.
Like any Kanye show, this one was attended by major music, television, and fashion stars, including Pusha T, A$AP Ferg, Swizz Beatz, LaLa Anthony, Hailey Baldwin, Carine Roitfeld, Teyana Taylor, Zoë Kravitz, and longtime Yeezy affiliates Don C, Ibn Jasper, and Virgil Abloh.
Kim K. sat next to Anna Wintour during the show, which was also attended by Yeezy’s sister-in-law Kylie Jenner and her beau, G.O.O.D. Music’s Tyga.
Kanye, the star of it all, didn’t make an appearance during the show. Instead, he greeted some of his guests backstage, sporting an all blonde hairstyle. Afterwards, Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid showed up with a delivery of McDonald’s for Kanye and Kim.
