Sampha Covers Drake's 'Controlla'

  /  03.28.2017

Fresh off his More Life collaboration with Drake on “4422,” Sampha puts his spin on the 6 God’s “Controlla.”

During an appearance on the BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge on Tuesday (March 28), the British vocalist turned the dance-ready Views banger into a heartfelt, stripped-down ballad.

“I think I’d lie for you,” he sang, while playing the piano. “I think I’d die for you / Jodeci ‘Cry for You’ / Do things when you want me to.”

Drizzy first enlisted Sampha for “Too Much” off 2013’s Nothing Was the Same. More recently, Drake granted Sampha “4422,” a solo cut on More Life.

When asked if the duo has “an album’s worth of material,” Sampha simply laughed. “An album’s worth?” he said. “Maybe, maybe.”
