6LACK Performs 'PRBLMS' on 'Late Late Show'

  /  04.21.2017

Almost six months after dropping his breakthrough debut Free 6LACK, 6LACK continues to shine. On Thursday (Apr. 20), the Atlanta vocalist graced the stage on “The Late Late Show with James Corden.”

Performing his smash “PRBLMS,” 6LACK stood on an elevated digital platform with screens on the side. He was backed by a live band and singers, but also by shimmering lights and smoke. “I wanted a girl who was down to earth,” he sang. “But she want the earth and the sky.”

The performance was part of Beats 1’s new Up Next series, which includes a sit-down interview with host Zane Lowe. During his conversation, 6LACK revealed that he’s learned from his past as a battle rapper. “I kinda feel like battle rap gave me all the tools I needed to write songs today,” he explained. “Battle rap is about how much you can say and putting so many different words and expressions together to get your point across, and songwriting is like, ‘How can I get that same point across, but by saying less?'”

At one point, battling led a younger 6LACK to battle with Young Thug. A portion of that footage has made its way online. Now, he says he’d rather work with Jeffery. “I want a Thug feature,” he said. “There’s a video of us battling floating around on Twitter. This was years [ago], before he was who he is, before I was who I was.”

Since then, 6LACK has created a buzzworthy career, received a co-sign from The Weeknd, and collaborated with Jhené Aiko on “First Fuck.”
