  /  05.12.2017

The Defiant Ones, a four-part documentary about Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine, finally has a release date. Premiering July 9 on HBO, the series will continue through July 12.

Directed by Allen Hughes (Menace II Society), the four-part series will analyze Dre and Iovine individually and through their connections with Interscope, Aftermath, and Beats Electronics, which they sold to Apple for $3 billion in 2014.

The years-in-the-making film will also include interviews with Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Nas, Ice Cube, Gwen Stefani, and U2’s Bono, among others.

The Defiant Ones has everything you expect in a great story — drama and humor, tragedy and triumph,” said Casey Bloys, HBO’s president of programming. “Allen Hughes takes you on a journey through some of the most important flash points of popular culture, and I’m delighted that we can bring this unforgettable saga to our viewers.”

A trailer for the four-part doc features Iovine, Dre, Eminem, Snoop, and other guests. “You will never make it out of this neighborhood, succeed with a white rapper, get a second chance,” reads the clip. “You will never start your own label, turn fear into a tailwind, put out those lyrics. You will never build a tech company together, make headphones, achieve the American dream.”
