Kendrick Lamar Remixes Future's 'Mask Off'

  /  05.23.2017

Platinum, platinum, platinum! After bringing Future out to perform “Mask Off” at Coachella, Kendrick Lamar jumps on the flute-filled banger’s remix.

While Pluto’s first verse remains intact, Kung Fu Kenny comes out kickin’ on the second verse. “Platinum, platinum, platinum,” he raps. “Gotta look at self and ask what happened / How y’all let a conscious ni**a go commercial, while only makin’ conscious albums?”

Wide-ranging and free-flowing, the verse contains religious references (“I got a halo / I level up every time God say so”) and slights to doubters (“Everybody who didn’t pay respect / Gotta fess up now and pay your debt”). It even has a tribute to Prince followed by a “Mask Off” call to action.

“She said she broke down when Prince died,” he raps. “It’s alright / Bitch my hair down, Prince live through me / I am Prince / Get your ass up and be inspired / You know how many bodies in the street? Take the mask off so you can see.”

This isn’t the first time Future and Kendrick have teamed up on a track. The duo also worked together on “Buy the World” off Mike WiLL Made-It’s Ransom back in 2014.

In 2011, Black Hippy — the TDE quartet of Kendrick, ScHoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, and Jay Rock — also remixed Pluto’s “U.O.E.N.O.” single with a bar-fest remix.

Future is currently on his “Nobody Safe Tour,” which runs through June 30 in Las Vegas. Meanwhile, Kendrick embarks on his “DAMN. Tour” on July 12 in Phoenix.
