Watch Playboi Carti's XXL Freshman Freestyle

  /  06.22.2017

Hot off the “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” stage, Playboi Carti’s buzz continues. Celebrating his placement on the XXL Freshman cover, Young Carti releases a solo interview and freestyle for the mag.

In a short Q&A, the “Magnolia” rapper credited Gucci Mane, Shawty Lo, and Jeezy as major inspirations while describing himself as an artist.

“What makes me stand out as an artist is, I don’t know, the vibes, I’m cool,” he said. “Music is there and it’s great. I don’t know. I’m for the youth. For the culture. If I was to describe my sound, I would say lazy but confident, really hyphy, and I like to motivate.”

To kick off his Freshman freestyle, Playboi performed a portion of his “Magnolia” smash, before launching into a freeform verse. “I just got a new ho,” he raps. “That’s my favorite bitch / I just got a new watch, diamonds on my wrist / Ni**a watch this.”

Prior to Playboi, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie also dropped his Freshman freestyle and interview. The duo are joined on this year’s XXL Freshman cover by the likes of KYLE, Kamaiyah, and PnB Rock.
