New Music: Kodak Black - 'My Cousin'
Fresh off his “First Day Out,” Kodak Black contemplates going back to jail on his latest release, “My Cousin.”
The deeply personal song allows Lil Kodak to express his resentment while understanding the consequences of his actions.
“My cousin just got hit up today, I wanna slide though,” he raps. “Even though I’m on house arrest, I wanna ride though / But I go to prison, I know my mama will cry though / He told me, ‘I’m just telling you, I love you before I die though.'”
After focusing on family, Kodak turns his attention towards haters he’s at war with. “Soldier-like mentality, going through these tragedies,” he raps. “Don’t wanna see me happily, rather see me raggedy / They don’t wanna see me get a bag, they want to bag a G / But I’ll go on a clapping spree and murk your whole family.”
Recently, Kodak found himself in hot water over controversial comments about black women. “Keke Palmer, she straight,” he said on Instagram Live. “I’d bag her, but I don’t really like black girls like that, sorta, kinda.”
He responded to the backlash with another heavily-criticized statement. “I love black African-American women,” Kodak said. “It’s just not my forte to deal with a ‘darkskin’ woman…I prefer them to have a lighter complexion than me. #MyPreference #FuckYou.”
