M.A.C. to Launch Aaliyah Collection

  /  08.24.2017

M.A.C is paying tribute to Aaliyah with a cosmetics collection inspired by the R&B icon.

The partnership comes two years after fans petitioned for the brand to honor the late singer and actress with a limited edition collection. The Change.org petition received more than 26,000 supporters and it appears that the company was listening.

The M.A.C Aaliyah collection will launch in summer 2018. “Aaliyah is truly one in a million–an unstoppable icon whose groundbreaking work in R&B music and film inspires us all,” said M.A.C in a statement. “Today we join her countless fans in celebrating her with the announcement of the M·A·C Aaliyah collection. You made it happen! Stay tuned in 2018.”

The makeup giant revealed a similar collection inspired by the late singer Selena Quintanilla, which sold out quickly before coming back for a second run in December 2016.

This isn’t the first time that Baby Girl’s name has been attached to products. In 2015, Aaliyah’s family launched a tribute fragrance inspired by the beloved R&B star.

More details, including what the collection will actually consist of, are expected to be announced at a later date.

The revelation comes at a time when many fans are thinking about Aaliyah. Tomorrow marks the 16th anniversary of her tragic death.

M.A.C has partnered with high-profile artists in the past, including Lady Gaga, Lil’ Kim, Mary J. Blige, and Mariah Carey. Earlier this week, Nicki Minaj announced that she is teaming up with the brand for a new collection, which will launch this fall.
