Cardi B helped kick off the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards with some money moves. With the No. 3 single in the country, the rap bombshell took over the red carpet at The Forum in Inglewood, Calif. to perform her smash hit “Bodak Yellow” during the “MTV VMA Pre-Show.”
Donning a sparkly leotard, robe, and stiletto boots, which she compared to the Soul Train disco ball, the former “Love & Hip Hop” star fought back her nerves and delivered a shining performance in front of fans and her peers. Backed by two dancers, she started off on stage and made her way onto the carpet. After removing her robe, she busted out some sexy moves, including a “hardcore” squat.
A humbled Cardi was all smiles after her performance. “Thank you everybody,” she said before asking for a drink of water.
After leaving “Love & Hip Hop: New York” to pursue her music career, Belkelis has blossomed into one of the genre’s premiere artists of the year. Following her Gangsta Bitch Music Vol. 2 mixtape, she skyrocketed to No. 3 on the Hot 100 with “Bodak Yellow.”
All of these “Money Moves” have made history. With “Bodak,” she scored highest-charting Hot 100 single by an unaccompanied female rapper since Nicki Minaj’s “Anaconda.” This month, she continued “Yellow” fever with the song’s “Latin Trap Mix,” which blends English and Spanish while repping her multicultural background.
Co-hosted by Lil Yachty, Terrence J, Charlamagne Tha God, and Gaby Wilson, the “MTV VMA Pre-Show” celebration also included performances by Khalid and Bleachers.
