New Music: iLoveMakonnen feat. Rae Sremmurd - 'Love'

  /  09.07.2017

iLoveMakonnen reunites with Mike WiLL Made-It on his rock-tinged single “Love” featuring Rae Sremmurd.

With a pop-punk twist and infectious harmonies, the genre-bending track finds Makonnen, Slim Jxmmi, and Swae Lee reeling from romance gone awry over Travis Barker’s drums.

“You turned me into a stoner,” sings the “Tuesday” hitmaker. “I’m heartless and I don’t need a donor / This is who I am, because of you, I am / Falling down, I’m smoking up / Since you ain’t around, I got my middle fingers up / Fuck love!”

In an interview with Rap-Up, Makonnen revealed how the collaboration came together. “We’ve known each other for years now, before we had notoriety,” he said. “Mike WiLL was the most successful person we knew. In Atlanta, he introduced us, and he was always working with us. So, we’ve always worked on music together, before ‘Tuesday’ came out. We’ve been friends before that whole fiasco happened when I went off and went with OVO.

“This is kind of like coming back home to the home team,” he added. “It’s just good to see everybody doing their thing. Now, we have a sound that we felt was too new way back then, when we were trying to work on it, but now is the right time to link up. Everybody understands us as artists and they’re more open to hearing us try our artistry. We have a record that’s multigenerational, multicultural, something for everybody, but still true to us.”
