Watch Miley Cyrus Cover Cardi B's 'Bodak Yellow'

Miley Cyrus takes on Cardi B.

The pop superstar delivered a rousing rendition of “Bodak Yellow (Money Moves)” during a “Musical Genre Challenge” segment on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on Monday (Oct. 2).

First, Cyrus performed a bluegrass version of R. Kelly’s “Ignition (Remix).” Then, she delivered the pop version of “Bodak Yellow,” focusing on the chorus, stressing that she no longer dances, but instead makes money moves, with her powerful vocals belting out the lyrics.

Cyrus, who recently released her Younger Now album, has worked on hip-hop-inspired music in the past, including collaborations with Nelly, Future, Big Sean, Ludacris, and Mike WiLL Made-It, among others.

However, she has also faced criticism over her more recent hip-hop commentary. During a recent Billboard interview, she talked about distancing herself from the genre, even though she still likes some rap music. “I also love that new Kendrick [Lamar] song [‘HUMBLE.’]: ‘Show me somethin’ natural like ass with some stretch marks.’ I love that because it’s not, ‘Come sit on my dick, suck on my cock.’ I can’t listen to that anymore,” she explained. “That’s what pushed me out of the hip-hop scene a little. It was too much, ‘Lamborghini, got my Rolex, got a girl on my cock’ — I am so not that.”

Following backlash for those statements, Miley issued a lengthy comment via Instagram. “To be clear I respect ALL artists who speak their truth and appreciate ALL genres of music (country, pop, alternative …. but in this particular interview I was asked about rap),” she wrote. “I have always and will continue to love and celebrate hip-hop as I’ve collaborated with some of the very best!

“At this point in my life I am expanding personally/musically and gravitating more towards uplifting, conscious rap,” she explained. “As I get older I understand the effect music has on the world & Seeing where we are today I feel the younger generation needs to hear positive powerful lyrics!”

Cardi B’s “Bodak Yellow” continues to make an impact. This week, it topped the Billboard Hot 100 for a second week in a row. Bardi plans on celebrating with the release of a new freestyle on her birthday (Oct. 11)
