New Music: K. Michelle - 'Make This Song Cry'

  /  10.06.2017

K. Michelle takes on a JAY-Z classic.

With her latest single off The People I Used to Know, the R&B songstress flips Jigga’s “Song Cry” sample. Built off Bobby Glenn’s “Sounds Like a Love Song,” this edition allows K. Michelle to deliver rousing vocals about heartache and pain. “I’ma make this song cry,” she sings. “Never let a ni**a see me cry.”

“My new album @thepeopleiusedtoknow is really amazing,” she wrote on Instagram. “it took long enough huh? While you wait rock 2 my new single.”

K. Michelle has been an outspoken Shawn Carter fan. In June, she celebrated the release of 4:44 with gratitude. “Thank God the heavens heard our cry,” she tweeted. “We get to listen to some REAL RAP LYRICS. Good music do something to me.”

This isn’t the first time that K. Michelle has been influenced by a JAY-Z song. 2013’s “V.S.O.P.” also pulled inspiration from Hov’s “December 4th” sample of Chi Lite’s “That’s How Long.”

“Make This Song Cry” is the latest single off The People I Used to Know, following “Birthday” and the Chris Brown-assisted “Either Way.”

Due later this year, the album is also set to feature Jeremih (“Takes Two”) and Princess Nokia (“Princess Nokia Outro”).
