New Music: Mariah Carey - 'The Star'

  /  10.20.2017

On the heels of Fifth Harmony’s “Can You See,” Mariah Carey reveals the title track for the animated Christmas film The Star.

The soaring ballad is an inspirational anthem that follows the movie’s theme. “Thunder and rain surround you but His love’s just a breath away,” sings MC. “If you follow the heart, follow the light, follow that star.”

In a video that acts as a trailer for the film, Mariah beamed about how the song relates to the movie, which tells the nativity story from the perspective of the animals. “I think that the song brings the entire movie to life,” she said. “That’s a pretty special thing.”

Up next, Mariah is working on a new album through her recently launched Butterfly MC Records imprint, a drama series based on her life, an animated movie of her own, inspired by “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” and a docu-series for VH1.

The Star is due in theaters Nov. 17, while its soundtrack drops Oct. 27.
