Justin Timberlake Performs 'Supplies' & 'Say Something' on 'Tonight Show'

Ain’t no need of stoppin’, girl. Hot off his Super Bowl halftime show, Justin Timberlake brought his high-powered energy to “The Tonight Show” on Sunday (Feb. 4), where he ran through two standouts from his just-released album Man of the Woods.

Wearing a beanie, long sleeve orange shirt, faded jeans, and Timberland boots, J.T. performed “Supplies” live for the first time from Minneapolis’ Orpheum Theatre following Sunday’s big game. Backed by a team of camo-sporting dancers, the self-proclaimed “generous lover” had Minnesota turnin’ up to The Neptunes-produced banger.

Strapped with his guitar, the Memphis crooner also performed “Say Something” with Chris Stapleton by his side. Backed by shining lights and a live band, the guys strummed their instruments while belting out the melodic single. Both performances were a taste of things to come from Justin’s upcoming “Man of the Woods Tour,” which kicks off March 13 at Toronto’s Air Canada Centre.

Sitting down with host and friend Jimmy Fallon, Timberlake opened up about his Super Bowl halftime tribute to Prince, which wasn’t a hologram, but more of a mash-up and homage.

“It’s a moment for me, if I’m being quite honest,” he said. “[Prince has] always been the pinnacle of musicianship for me, and when we decided that the serendipity and synergy that we would be in Minneapolis, and he’s such a special thing here, aside from what he is all over the world, I just felt like I wanted to do something for this city and something for him that would be the ultimate homage to what I consider the G.O.A.T. of musicians.”

J.T. was particularly excited about the way that the performance was pulled off. “We got the actual real vocal stems from ‘I Would Die 4 U.’ The actual recording and then we got uncut footage from his performance of it in Purple Rain,” he added, “and somehow, some way, by the grace of probably Prince looking down on us, it synched up. It was this crazy serendipitous moment. I just wanted to use that opportunity to do something special for this city, but most of all for my favorite musician of all time.”
