Kanye West's Childhood Home Will Be 'Heart-Bombed' on Valentine's Day
Kanye West’s childhood home will be “heart-bombed” on Valentine’s Day to show love and appreciation for the local landmark. Donda House is teaming up with Landmarks Illinois’ Skyline Council in order to make this happen.
A heart bomb usually features a public showering of affection in the form of heart-shaped signs that show reverence for an underutilized or vacant building. The Skyline Council also provides an update on ways the underserved locations can be upgraded.
Donnie Smith, Executive Director of Donda’s House, spoke about the importance of the initiative. “We are thrilled to be working with Landmarks Illinois’ Skyline Council,” said Smith. “Landmarks Illinois came out to the site recently to give us an assessment of the house, with recommendations for renovating and repairing the property. We were pleasantly surprised to learn that the house is, overall, in pretty good shape.”
The heart-bombing is part of Donda House’s HeARTS Matter Week, which is meant to celebrate advocacy and education. Skyline Council and Donda’s House will also be hosting craft-making activities in February, where participants will create their hearts and other objects that will be displayed in the home.
Located in South Shore, Chicago, Yeezy’s childhood home was purchased by Donda House in 2016. The organization is named after Kanye’s late mother, Dr. Donda West. Longtime friend and collaborator Rhymefest wants to use the home as an art center to encourage youth in Chicago to embrace careers in the arts.
The heart-bombing event will take place on Feb. 14 at 4:15 p.m. at 7815 S. South Shore Drive, Chicago. Additional information can be found at Donda’s House.
