Jhené Aiko Covers Tupac's 'Keep Ya Head Up' for Spotify

  /  03.01.2018

Jhené Aiko pays homage to Tupac Shakur once again, with yet another cover of the late rapper’s classic “Keep Ya Head Up.”

As part of Spotify’s Singles campaign, Penny recorded an acoustic rendition of the motivational single off 1993’s Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z. at Spotify Studios NYC.

Five years ago, Jhené performed a stripped-down version of the ‘Pac track for Rap-Up Sessions. At the time, she explained why she was so fascinated by the legendary MC.

“I think he’s a global icon for speaking your mind, being controversial, and just having something to say in your music,” she said. “He had it all—the look, the music, and he really stood for something. Even if you just wanna make the world happy or make ’em dance, it should be for a reason and not just for personal gain, and I think he really took responsibility for that. He knew the power in music.”

To go along with the cover, Jhené also delivered a mellow rendition of “Sativa,” her Swae Lee-assisted single off last year’s Trip. Earlier this year, she released a remix of the song, this time including Slim Jxmmi for a complete Rae Sremmurd collaboration.
