New Music: Jeremih - 'Forever I'm Ready'

  /  03.08.2018

Jeremih is “Ready.” Before dropping his four-track EP The Chocolate Box, the R&B crooner unleashes “Forever I’m Ready,” a sample-heavy single produced by Hitmaka.

Over a smooth instrumental that pulls from H-Town’s “Knockin Da Boots” and 2Pac’s “Keep Ya Head Up,” Jeremih sings about his bad gal, while referencing some musical titans.

“She a bad girl, no RiRi,” he sings. “I’m a bad boy like Puffy / She the business and I mind my business / Keep my mind on you, bae, like it’s nothin’ / I got something for you, baby.”

This isn’t the first time “Knockin’ Da Boots” has been used by others. The Notorious B.I.G. famously rapped over a sample of the song for “One More Chance,” while Pretty Ricky covered it in 2008. Meanwhile, “Keep Ya Head Up” has inspired several others, including Fat Joe’s “Another Day” and UGK’s “Shattered Dreams.”

Jeremih, who is also prepping a Ty Dolla $ign joint project MihTy, is unleashing The Chocolate Box at midnight. He previewed snippets of each track on Instagram, including “Cards Right,” “SMTS,” and “Nympho.”
