Is The Weeknd Planning to Release a 2018 Trilogy?

  /  04.23.2018

Fresh off last month’s My Dear Melancholy, The Weeknd fans believe he’s ready to release the second installment of a rumored trilogy.

Recently, the XO boss changed his Instagram header to read: “we’re alone together,” which some believe is a new EP title. Some fans even think the third installment, possibly titled Abel, is also on the way. This theory suggests that The Weeknd’s full 2018 trilogy would be called My Dear Melancholy, We’re Alone Together. Abel.

It wouldn’t be a first for The Weeknd. In 2012, Abel released Trilogy, comprised of House of Balloons, Thursday, and Echoes of Silence. In addition to the speculation, Travis Scott recently said “Abel’s new album” feels “like when I first heard him for the first time.” Fans are pointing to this as another sign of a trilogy.

The Weeknd has yet to confirm any of the conspiracy theories about his next two EPs. However, fan accounts claim that the new projects are on the way soon. If so, the projects would arrive in the midst of several headlining gigs, including Panorama, Lollapalooza, and Outside Lands.

My Dear Melancholy, topped the Billboard 200 upon its release, earning 169,000 equivalent album units (68,000 traditional) in its first week.
