Trump Thanks Kanye West for Doubling His African-American Poll Numbers

  /  05.04.2018

President Donald Trump is using Kanye West’s support to gloat about his impact on the black community. Earlier today, Trump referenced his famous ally during a speech at the NRA convention in Dallas.

“Kanye West must have some power because you probably saw, I doubled my African-American poll numbers,” he said. “We went from 11 to 22 in one week. Thank you, Kanye.”

Trump’s claim does not appear to be accurate. Several reports state that he was likely referring to a recent Reuters poll that showed his approval rating among black men rose from 11 to 22 percent between Apr. 22 and Apr. 29.

However, his approval rating among all black people is at 16.5 percent and the number drops to 9.3 percent among black women. Overall, his approval rating sits at 41.4 percent, according to Reuters.

Prior to this, Trump also boasted about unemployment rates. “African American unemployment has reached another all-time, in history, record low, in history,” he said.

Trump has been celebrating these figures for months. In January, NPR investigated his claims and noted that there is an issue with the fact that he seems to take ownership of these numbers.

“A big problem with that claim is that those rates had been falling for long before Trump took office, and their declines don’t appear to have picked up speed,” their report stated. “This implies that there’s nothing specific that Trump did to change this rate.”

Kanye has also been outspoken about his support for Trump. “You don’t have to agree with trump but the mob can’t make me not love him,” he tweeted. “We are both dragon energy. He is my brother. I love everyone. I don’t agree with everything anyone does. That’s what makes us individuals. And we have the right to independent thought.”
