This is platinum. Childish Gambino’s single “This Is America” has been certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.
The politically-charged song topped the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks following its May 7 debut on “Saturday Night Live.” The track has also enjoyed global success, debuting at No. 1 on Spotify’s global and U.S. charts and hitting No. 1 on iTunes in 45 markets. Additionally, it remains No. 1 on the Overall Streaming Chart for three weeks in a row.
The Hiro Murai-directed video has also garnered over 216 million views since its release and is currently No. 1 on YouTube’s U.S. Top Music Videos. The video was watched 85.3 million times in its first week on YouTube, marking the biggest first week debut of any video this year.
Despite its success, the song is not the first single off Gambino’s debut album on Wolf + Rothstein/RCA Records, which is due out later this year.
Starting in September, the Grammy and Golden Globe-winning rapper-actor will head out on a North American tour with Rae Sremmurd and Vince Staples.
