Drake's 'Scorpion' Breaks Spotify Opening Day Streaming Record

  /  06.30.2018

Scorpion is making streaming history.

One day after its release, Drake’s 25-track double album has reportedly shattered the global opening day streaming record on Spotify. According to SpotifyCharts.com, Scorpion was streamed 132 million times worldwide on its first day.

The record was previously held by Post Malone’s sophomore album beerbongs & bentleys, which earned 78 million streams on its opening day on April 27.

As HotNewHipHop points out, Scorpion currently fills out the top 23 spots on Spotify’s U.S. songs chart and the top 12 spots on the worldwide chart. XXXTentacion’s “SAD!” sits at No. 13, while Drake occupies 14-18.

Drake has reportedly also broken the global record for most opening day singles streams for “Nonstop” with approximately 9.2 million streams, besting Taylor Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do.” However, XXXTentacion’s “SAD!” still owns the largest global single-day streaming record following his death. “Nonstop” has reportedly set the record in the U.S.

Spotify has been promoting Drake heavily on its platform. The streaming giant launched a “Scorpion SZN” global takeover in honor of the new album, marking the first time a single artist has taken over multiple Spotify playlists on the same day. Additionally, Spotify revealed that the album was being streamed over 10 million times per hour upon its release.
