New Music: Normani feat. 6LACK - 'Waves'

  /  11.15.2018

Normani is destined for solo stardom. After teaming up with Calvin Harris on a pair of tracks, the former Fifth Harmony songstress rides “Waves” with 6LACK on a new single off her upcoming solo debut.

On the seductive jam, Normani wrestles with a complicated love. “First I blame you, then I want you / Fuckin’ hate you, then I love you / I can’t help myself, no,” she sings. “You come in waves.”

6LACK compliments the track with his own dark verse. “First I love you, then I hate you / I won’t dare try to replace you / I ain’t crazy, no.”

During an interview with Zane Lowe on Beats 1, Normani opened up about working with the East Atlanta Love Letter crooner. “I admire him as an artist, and he’s just amazing,” said Normani of 6LACK. “He’s an amazing lyricist, and I feel like he took the record to a whole other level. I already love the record as is, but he totally exceeded any expectation I even had, which was pretty high, because I admire him as an artist.”

Normani’s solo debut is due in the first quarter of 2019. She remained tight-lipped on details, but hinted that the title would have a number in it and that Khalid would appear on the album, but their hit single “Love Lies” will not be included.

Up next, Normani is set to hit the road with Ariana Grande on the latter’s “Sweetener World Tour,” starting March 18 in Albany, New York.
