Report: Drake Launches Independent Label Frozen Moments

  /  02.28.2019

Drake is up to something.

The rapper’s remix to Summer Walker’s “Girls Need Love” arrived to streaming services on Wednesday. It was credited to Walker’s LVRN label and partner Interscope, along with a new name: Frozen Moments.

Fans were quick to notice the omission of Young Money/Cash Money, which has been attached to Drake’s projects since the beginning of his career. This led to speculation that Drake has officially left his longtime home and launched his own independent label outside of OVO Sound.

The “Girls Need Love (Remix)” marks the first time Drake has not released music under the Young Money/Cash Money umbrella. This month’s 10th anniversary release of his So Far Gone mixtape may have been his last obligation to the label.

As HipHop-N-More points out, Frozen Moments has been associated with Drake since 2006. Back then, it was a sports and entertainment finance group based in Philadelphia that would send emails to music executives. Complex notes that in May 2009, Drake established Frozen Moments, LLC, listing himself as manager and sole member.

In July 2018, Variety reported that Drake was nearing the end of his contract with Young Money/Cash Money, and that he was in negotiations for a new deal.
