Nipsey Hussle Was Scheduled to Meet with LAPD About Gang Violence

Nipsey Hussle was planning to meet with the Los Angeles Police Department to discuss gang violence prevention just one day before he was shot to death outside his Marathon Clothing store in Los Angeles.

The Grammy-nominated MC was scheduled to meet with LAPD Chief Michel Moore and LAPD Commissioner Steve Soboroff on Monday. Taking to Twitter after Nipsey’s murder, Soboroff expressed his sadness over Sunday’s tragic events.

“A weekend in Los Angeles with incidents of tragic violence… this needs to simply STOP,” tweeted Soboroff, adding, “.@NipseyHussle #RIP sir. Many of us will join together to stop what ever caused your, and so many other tragic unnecessary killings.”

He also revealed that a meeting with Nipsey and his management Roc Nation was set for today at 4 p.m. to “talk about ways he could help stop gang violence and help us help kids.”

Roc Nation executive Jay Brown reportedly spoke to the LAPD on behalf of Nipsey to set up a face-to-face between the rapper and at least two high-ranking police officials.

According to TMZ, that meeting will still happen at Brown’s request. He wanted to follow through with Nipsey’s wishes so a Roc Nation representative, possibly Jay, will attend the meeting in Nipsey’s place.

Soboroff says he regrets not holding the meeting earlier. “The sadness that I feel—I wish we could have had the meeting on Friday,” he told TMZ. “I think he would have been excited about all the possibilities, and I know we were.”

As an active member of his community, Nipsey gave back to the South L.A. streets he was raised in while creating new opportunities for young talent. “Growing up as a kid, I was looking for somebody—not to give me anything—but somebody that cared,” he told the Los Angeles Times in 2018. “Someone that was creating the potential for change and that had an agenda outside of their own self-interests.”
