Video: Jhené Aiko - 'Triggered (freestyle)'

  /  05.08.2019

Jhené Aiko is “Triggered.” The R&B songstress reloads with her latest freestyle.

In the stripped-down video for the emotionally-charged track, she stands on a cliff while addressing an ex-boyfriend. “You motherfu**in’ right I’m bitter,” quips Jhené. “You motherfu**in’ right I’m triggered.”

Tensions rise as she threatens to “burn this bitch down.” “Don’t know what I’m capable of, might f**k around and go crazy on cuz / Might f**k around, have to pay me in blood.”

She continues to put him on blast. “Trying my hardest not to disrespect you / After what you did, man, what you expected? / You motherfu**er.”

A vulnerable Jhené then begs for her lover to come back. “Fall back eventually / Please call me back eventually / Fall back into me,” she sings before warning him: “You need to stay out of my way.”

She originally planned to drop the song last month, but put it on hold in the wake of Nipsey Hussle’s death. Her new album, the follow-up to 2017’s Trip, will consist of all freestyles.

“my next album is all freestyles where i touch on many subjects and relationships… past, present and future,” she revealed.

And despite her high-profile breakup with Big Sean, the music isn’t necessarily about him. “I know you all love the drama and would like to think everything i do or say is about him, but i’ve been through plenty of other things and situations that i pull inspiration from when i sit down to create a song.”
