Majid Jordan and Khalid Team Up on 'Caught Up'

  /  07.24.2019

Majid Jordan is “Caught Up” on their new collaboration with Khalid.

The slow burning jam was inspired by the Canadian duo’s experiences getting carried away in the Los Angeles lifestyle. “How many wrongs can I right? How many wrongs in a night?” they ask. “Caught up in L.A., caught up in a race / I’m tryna keep faith, tryna stay real now.”

In the Mathew Dillon Cohen-directed video, the OVO Sound signees heads on a desert trip on the outskirts of L.A. After eating some “space tacos” with hot sauce, things take a psychedelic turn and they start seeing aliens before meeting up with Khalid.

“‘Caught Up’ is a song about getting carried away. We have an interesting, impermanent relationship with L.A.,” said Majid. “It’s a really amazing place to connect with artists. But spend too much time out here and you start losing sight of life outside of the bubble. It’s that gorgeous scenery and culture mixed with the parties, the people and the glamour that leave you caught up and drifting away from home and the ones you love the most.”

Jordan added, “We first met Khalid in L.A. Like us, he is always on the go, but we managed to come back together in L.A. to finish the record. Majid and I are always inspired by our surroundings, and L.A. has so much to offer in terms of sights and sounds. And I think we’ve all had moments where we have felt like we’re really caught up in this city. I took that energy and put it into the production. This song is a great start to the next chapter of where we’re going with our music and I’m grateful to have made a lifelong friend in Khalid.”

The group is now gearing up for a new project, their first since 2017’s The Space Between.
