Drake Cuts Set Short After Getting Booed at Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival

  /  11.11.2019

Drake surprised the crowd at Tyler, the Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival, but not everyone was here for it.

Drizzy was one of the guests during Sunday’s surprise headlining set at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, which was kept under wraps up until the moment. Many fans had been hoping for a performance from Frank Ocean, but instead, they were treated to appearances from A$AP Rocky, Lil Uzi Vert, and Drake.

The 6 God entered to cheers with his 2013 single “Started From the Bottom” before paying homage to Tyler, who was seen singing and dancing in the crowd as Drake performed “Feel No Ways.”

“I’m doing this for my brother Tyler, who started this [event] from nothing. That’s not easy,” he said. “Tonight, I felt like I had to touch this stage because I’m proud of my brothers, I’m proud of you.”

But things took a turn as he went on to perform “Wu-Tang Forever.” “Flog Gnaw, make some noise for yourself tonight,” he said. “I’m here for you tonight. If you want to keep going, I will keep going tonight. What’s up?”

Some of the crowd seemingly didn’t want more and began booing, while others yelled “No.” “If you want to keep going,” he said, “I will keep going tonight.”

The screams got louder before he decided to cut his set short, a whole 20 minutes before schedule. “It’s been love,” said Drake as he exited the stage. “I love ya’ll. I go by the name of Drake. Thank you for having me.”

Some in the crowd were heard chanting “We want Frank,” hoping that Frank Ocean would hit the stage. Video footage of the incident was posted on social media and quickly went viral.

Fans and artists weighed in to share support for Drake. “Drake handled that [situation] so raw. Respect,” wrote Kehlani in a since-deleted tweet before calling Drake the “GOAT.”

Dreamville’s J.I.D also chimed in, adding, “I thought we collectively loved Drake, wat y’all doing?”

UPDATE: Tyler, the Creator has addressed Drake being booed. While he admits that he may have been “a lil tone deaf” booking him for the festival, he still doesn’t condone the disrespect from the crowd.

“I THOUGHT BRINGING ONE OF THE BIGGEST ARTIST ON THE FUCKING PLANET TO A MUSIC FESTIVAL WAS FIRE!” he tweeted. “BUT FLIPSIDE, A LIL TONE DEAF KNOWING THE SPECIFIC CROWD IT DREW. SOME CREATED A NARRATIVE IN THEIR HEAD AND ACTED OUT LIKE ASSHOLES WHEN IT DIDNT COME TRUE AND I DONT FUCK WITH THAT.”
