JAY-Z Returns to Spotify on 50th Birthday

  /  12.04.2019

JAY-Z has a surprise for fans on his 50th birthday.

The hip-hop icon celebrated the milestone with a return to Spotify. As of Wednesday, his music catalog is once again available on the streaming service after a two-year absence.

“Happy birthday, Hov,” tweeted the streaming service. “Welcome back to Spotify.”

In April 2017, Hov pulled most of his albums from Spotify. According to Billboard, the decision may have had to do with the streaming service’s freemium tier, which paid less than subscriber-only services, or possibly to entice fans to sign up for his own streaming service, TIDAL, ahead of the release of his 2017 album 4:44.

4:44 is now available to stream on Spotify, along with JAY-Z’s other albums, including Reasonable Doubt, Vol. 2… Hard Knock Life, The Blueprint 3, Watch the Throne, The Black Album, and more. His catalog was previously available on other streaming platforms including Apple Music, TIDAL, and Amazon Music.
