Toni Braxton Returns with New Single 'Do It'

  /  04.06.2020

A legend returns.

Toni Braxton is back with her first single in two years. The seven-time Grammy winner provides some healing on “Do It,” on which she offers advice for those in an unhealthy relationship. “He ain’t gonna change / If you take him back it’s gon’ be the same / Just do what you need to do,” she sings.

The sultry track hits close to home for Braxton. “I wrote this song about a year ago when a friend was going through the struggles of trying to end a relationship that wasn’t good for her,” she said. “We have all been through situations like this, when there is really nothing more to say, you know he’s not right and you just need to do what you need to do. There is also an element of hope in the song, that after you do what you need to do things will get better.”

She also shared some advice for fans during quarantine. “During these unprecedented times, make the most of your time indoors with some self-reflection. Now might be a good time to quarantine your heart as well in order to examine what it really needs.”

“Do It” is the first release from the R&B legend since her 2018 album Sex & Cigarettes. She has since left Def Jam and signed a new label deal with Island Records, where she plans to release her next project.
