Nicki Minaj Teases Return by Tweeting New Lyrics

  /  06.09.2020

The Queen is coming.

Nicki Minaj has fans excited for her return to music, and all it took was one tweet. On Monday, she tweeted the lyrics to what appears to be a new song, sparking pandemonium among her legions of Barbz.

“Showed you how to get a bag now u goin shopping,” wrote Nicki.

It didn’t take long for the tweet to go viral with over 23,000 retweets and 100,000 likes. Her fans immediately started speculating that the lyrics were from a potential new single and that a release could be imminent. The hashtags #WelcomeBackNicki and #NickiMinajIsComing started trending on Twitter.

“NM5 lyrics?” asked one fan, while another added, “THE QUEEN IS COMING BACK WHEN WE NEEDED HER THE MOST.”

Nicki has shied away from social media in recent months, fueling rumors that she could be pregnant. However, she did speak out and demand justice following the death of George Floyd at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer.

She also popped up during DJ Boof’s Instagram Live last week, where she revealed that she and Kanye West had shot a video for their long-awaited collaboration “New Body” and that she would speak to him about possibly releasing it.

Minaj has been working on her long-awaited fifth album, the follow-up to 2018’s Queen. “On the album that we’re working on now, I feel like I’m finding a great balance,” she said during an interview with the “Big Fendi Podcast.” “It took me a minute to find the balance of being me and giving the people what they’re hearing now, but I feel like now I’m finding a balance.”

Last month, Nicki earned her first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 as part of Doja Cat’s “Say So.” She has also recorded unreleased collaborations with Ty Dolla $ign, A$AP Ferg, and possibly 6ix9ine.

More details could come soon. Nicki plans to check in with fans when she goes live on Instagram this Friday.
