50 Cent Criticizes Pop Smoke's Team Over Album Release

  /  07.10.2020

50 Cent is not happy with Pop Smoke’s album rollout.

Less than a week after the late rapper’s posthumous debut Shoot for the Stars Aim for the Moon was released, the hip-hop tycoon has voiced his disapproval over the way Pop’s team has handled the project. While he didn’t provide more details or name any specific people, he said he would no longer be involved going forward.

“I’m really not feeling the way the guys involved with Pop’s project are handling things,” 50 tweeted, while crediting himself for the album’s success. “I got it to this point it’s gonna be the #1 album. That’s good enough right, i’m gonna be unavailable moving forward peace.”

The album, which 50 co-executive produced, was released last Friday and is expected to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 210-230,000 equivalent album units. It also becomes the highest-charting debut album by an international rapper in the U.K. in 17 years since 50’s own debut Get Rich or Die Tryin’.

50 was instrumental in spearheading the project’s release following Pop’s death in February. He can also be heard alongside Roddy Ricch on “The Woo.”

In an interview with Complex, 50 revealed why he decided to get involved. “Not everything that I do is based on finances and money. This is not about money, because I’m not getting paid off the record,” he said. “I’m not taking anything from the proceeds from anything that has anything to do with this project. It is completely about how I felt about the kid when we were talking, and what I thought he could have done, period. I think the album showcases that. When people get a chance to really listen to it, it’ll grow on them.”
