Donald Glover Working on Beyoncé-Inspired TV Series with Malia Obama

Donald Glover is expanding his empire.

The Emmy-winning actor has signed a multiple-year, eight-figure overall deal with Amazon after exiting his pact with FX. According to The Hollywood Reporter, one of the first projects will be a series called “Hive” centered around a “Beyoncé-like figure.” A writing staff has already been assembled, which will reportedly include Malia Obama.

The Harvard grad is no stranger to the entertainment industry. She previously interned on HBO’s “Girls” and worked as a production assistant on the CBS drama “Extant.”

Glover recently announced that he and “Fleabag” creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge are creating, starring in, and executive producing a reboot of the Brad Pitt-Angelina Jolie movie Mr. and Mrs. Smith, which is set to hit Amazon in 2022.

His Amazon partnership will also include a content channel that will spotlight his work and other curated content on Amazon’s Prime Video hub. Glover’s brother and writing/producing partner, Stephen Glover, has also signed an overall deal with Amazon.

The deal will not impact FX’s “Atlanta,” which has been renewed for seasons three and four. Production is slated to begin in March after being delayed by the coronavirus. Both seasons will be filmed back-to-back in order to get the comedy back on the air as soon as possible.
