DMX’s family and friends continue to mourn his death while celebrating his life.

A day after X passed away, the late rapper’s ex-wife, Tashera Simmons, penned a touching tribute to the father of her four kids. Overcome with a “roller coaster of emotions,” Tashera remembered her “best friend” and “mentor” while celebrating her 50th birthday on Saturday (April 10).

She shared a video montage filled with throwback photos throughout her life including her 1999 wedding to DMX. The couple was married for 15 years before divorcing in 2014. They share four children together: Xavier, 28, Tacoma, 21, Sean, 18, and Praise Mary Ella, 15.

“Now I also celebrate my ex-husband, my best friend, my spiritual partner, my mentor,” Tashera said in a voiceover. “But I also thank God for his life and his peace and his journey, and his life lessons that was passed on and that will live on for generations to come.”

In her caption, she remembered Earl Simmons, known to the world as DMX. “I couldn’t bring myself to just celebrate and close the last 50yrs of my life with out celebrating the life of one of thee most important person in the world to me, my Ex-husband,” she said.

“I am so grateful to God and Honored from the bottom of my heart, for the opportunity while on this journey called life to join hands in marriage with a true disciple and Angel of God to do life with when we did. Everything we went through was necessary. It made me the women I am today.”

Looking back on the past 50 years, she added, “As I enter a new chapter in life, I don’t walk in it the same. Life is so fragile and special at the same time!”

Tashera, along with DMX’s mother, fiancée, and many of his 15 children, were by his side after he was hospitalized on April 2 following a heart attack triggered by a reported drug overdose. He died Friday (April 9) at the age of 50.

In the wake of his death, those who knew him best, including Swizz Beatz and Eve, have shared heartfelt tributes to the Ruff Ryders legend, while his daughter Sasha also remembered her father.

“Nothing will ever explain how i feel, how this all feels. my twin, i love you,” she tweeted. “There’s always been so many misconceptions about who the f**k you were but that didn’t matter because i knew who the fuck you were. eternally greatful to have had you. i love you forever dad.”
