DaBaby Fires Back After Questlove Cancels Him

  /  07.30.2021

DaBaby won’t go quietly.

Following his controversial set at Rolling Loud, the rapper continues to field criticism from his fellow entertainers including Dua Lipa, Elton John, and Questlove.

The Roots drummer shared a hypothetical lineup for his Summer of Soul festival and DaBaby’s name was crossed out. While DaBaby was once on his dream list of performers, he is canceling him in the wake of his homophobic comments.

“I’m especially not here for any savagery (if you’re lost: Google the idiocy of the crossed out),” wrote Questlove. “I’m not trine be all performative smurf & create a social flogging or start some click bait headlines. That’s missing the point. But right is right & his actions are wrong. Somebody Gotta say it: Homophobia/Transphobia/Xenophobia/Misogyny/Racism——this should go w/o saying is morally wrong.”

He continued, calling DaBaby’s rant “fu**ed up and wrong.” “I had to say something. Again I’m not doing this for ‘what do you want a cookie bro w your ‘love ye one another’ posts?——-black people already have a code about publicly criticizing so I’ll admit i was slow to do this because I mean he don’t know me from Adam. So this will prolly get marked as ‘old hater’ territory. But man…..that shit was not cool at all.”

DaBaby responded by claiming that he doesn’t know who Questlove is despite performing with him and The Roots on “The Tonight Show” in 2019.

“I ain’t even tryna be funny when I say …. I do not know who dis ni**a is dawg,” he wrote on his Instagram Story. “& do not care about loosing [sic] you as a fan my boy @questlove. You or any other ni**a who wanna play follow the leader. This superstar you was a fan of is stand up ni**a, Yeen never seen one of these huh?”

He went on to call out his detractors while boasting about his influence. “These ni**as really think they gone influence people to stop fuckin w/ the INFLUENCE,” he wrote. “They go crazy about what I say not yall. I got da influence and the nuts ni**a. Y’all ni**as cheerleaders.”

On Twitter, DaBaby said he has plans to retire from rap and become an “icon.” “I was tryna be a rapper for like one more year God ready for me to be a ICON now,” he wrote. “This what I asked for I proudly accept the challenge lets get it.”

Madonna also took to Instagram to condemn DaBaby for his “hateful remarks.” “People like you are the reason we are still living in a world divided by fear,” said the pop icon. “All Human beings should be treated with dignity and respect regardless of race, gender, sexual preference or religious beliefs.”
