Beyoncé Earns First Oscar Nomination for 'Be Alive'

  /  02.08.2022

Beyoncé is an Oscar nominee.

The pop icon earned her first Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song for “Be Alive” from King Richard, a biopic about the father of Venus and Serena Williams. The power ballad, which plays during the end credits of the film, was written for the movie with songwriter Dixson.

Bey’s fellow nominees in the category include “Dos Oruguitas” (Lin-Manuel Miranda), “Down to Joy” (Van Morrison), “No Time to Die” (Billie Eilish & Finneas O’Connell), and “Somehow You Do” (Diane Warren).

While Mrs. Carter scored a nom, JAY-Z came up short. His collaboration with Kid Cudi, “Guns Go Bang,” from The Harder They Fall was on the short list of nominees, but ultimately did not earn a spot in the final five.

This is the latest addition to Queen Bey’s already impressive résumé. She has 28 Grammy wins and was previously nominated for a Golden Globe for her role as Deena Jones in the 2006 musical Dreamgirls.

The 2022 Oscar nominations were announced Tuesday. King Richard was also nominated for Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Original Screenplay.

Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson picked up his first Oscar nomination for Best Documentary Feature for Summer of Soul (…Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised).

The 94th annual Academy Awards will air live from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on Sunday, March 27.
