Frank Ocean in Talks to Direct First Feature Film

Frank Ocean is ready to take Hollywood by storm.

The singer is looking to write and direct his first feature film. According to Discussing Film, talks are already underway with distributors A24 and 2AM.

Production is slated to begin this fall and wrap before the new year. Ocean is reportedly eyeing New Mexico as a potential location to film his feature directorial debut, which has the internal working title Philly.

The 34-year-old Grammy winner previously showcased his filmmaking skills when he wrote and directed his 2016 visual album Endless. The 46-minute performance was live-streamed and showed Ocean silently woodworking on a staircase.

2AM is a relatively new production company, which has developed two films so far, the upcoming slasher Bodies, Bodies, Bodies and Past Lives, A24’s yet-to-be-released drama. The executives behind 2AM have worked on films including Vox Lux, American Woman, Zola, and The Electrical Life of Louis Wain.

Ocean has collaborated with A24 in the past. He wrote the forward for Barry Jenkins’ screenplay book release of Moonlight. His music was also featured prominently throughout Trey Edward Shults’ 2019 drama Waves.

Ocean, whose last album Blonde was released in 2016, is reportedly trying to coordinate the film shoot around his busy schedule, which includes a headlining slot at Coachella in 2023.
