Post Malone Hints at Country Album

  /  06.14.2022

Post Malone is going country.

The “Cooped Up” singer just released his new album Twelve Carat Toothache, but he may be switching genres on his next project. In an interview with Howard Stern on SiriusXM, Post admits that he has toyed with the idea of recording a country album.

“To be honest, there’s nothing stopping me from taking a camera or setting up in my studio in Utah and just recording a country album [to put] on YouTube,” Malone said. “I’m allowed to do that, I’m a human being.”

But his demanding schedule, including his upcoming “Twelve Carat Tour,” hasn’t allowed him enough time to record.

“[I] split my time between a lot of different things because I am happily obligated to do concerts and show love to my fans … and then I’m happily obligated to write music and make beats by myself, and I’m happily obligated to, you know, take care of my family,” he said. “So, it’s a lot of time, and it’s about finding that space to allot that time.”

However, if time permits, he may finally do it. “If I get another year to myself, maybe I’ll make a fu**ing country album.”

Post, who was raised in Grapevine, Texas, was introduced to country music through his mother. “My love of country music came from my mom,” he told VICE in a 2017 interview. “Whenever I was a little kid, a little niño, my mom would always play country in the car, so I guess that’s kinda where it came from.”

His favorite country artists include Hank Williams Sr., Willie Nelson, Tim McGraw, Brad Paisley, and Johnny Cash. “Johnny Cash influenced me a lot. He’s a great storyteller,” said Post, who noted the similarities between hip-hop and country. “Country and rap are essentially the same thing, just presented differently… You’re just showing off who you are and just what you’re about.”

Post has shown his love for country in the past with his covers of Brad Paisley’s “I’m Gonna Miss Her” and Sturgill Simpson’s “You Can Have the Crown.”

During his Stern interview, Post also revealed that he is a father. He and his fiancée recently welcomed a daughter.
