Drake Responds to Album Critics: 'We Wait for You to Catch Up'

  /  06.17.2022

Drake is setting the trends.

On Friday, the Toronto rapper released his surprise seventh studio album Honestly, Nevermind featuring dance and house music. But not everyone was a fan of his new sound, which was a noticeable departure from his previous hip-hop-heavy albums.

Social media weighed in with their thoughts, sharing memes and jokes about Drake’s surprising sound.

“I thought Drake was finna rap his ass off. He gave us Forever 21, Hot Topic, H&M ass music,” tweeted one person, while another joked, “Drake got my hips swaying like a bad bitch.”

Drake apparently heard the feedback and has a message for all those who aren’t fans of his new direction. A video surfaced online in which he responds to the criticism. According to Drake, he’s just ahead of the curve and his critics will soon catch up to his wave.

“It’s all good if you don’t get it yet,” he said. “That’s what we do. We wait for you to catch up.”

Added Drake, “We caught up already. On to the next.”

Drake worked with producers like Black Coffee, Gordo, Rampa, and Alex Lustig to craft his new album, which was a labor of love. “It took us about six, seven months to make, maybe,” he said during his new SiriusXM show “Table for One.” “And something that I always wanted to do. I don’t really wanna overexplain it, I just wanna play it ’cause it’s just a bunch of music that I love.”

But for those who don’t like “dance” Drake, they may be happy to know that he’s working on his next project. “I got another Scary Hours pack coming too, in a little bit,” he said. “I’m gonna slap some head tops off with the Scary Hours pack. I love this shit.”

Honestly, Nevermind is breaking new ground and records for Drake. In just one hour, the 14-track album has become the biggest dance album in Apple Music history with the most first-day streams worldwide.
