Meek Mill Talks Justice Reform, Performs 'Dangerous' on 'Tonight Show'

Meek Mill returned to “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on Tuesday (Sept. 4), one year after his arrest. This time, the rapper-turned-activist served double duty as a guest and performer.

Sitting down on the couch alongside Philadelphia 76ers co-owner Michael Rubin, the Philly rapper spoke out about justice reform and being put on probation from the age of 19. He is set to remain on probation until 2023.

“If I was to loiter or get a traffic ticket, I could go to jail for years,” said Meek, who was released from prison in April.

Now he and Rubin have teamed up with the goal of freeing one million people from the criminal justice system over the next five years. Despite his harsh circumstances, Meek considers himself one of the lucky ones. “To have some type of support where I come from, we don’t really have a lot of support. I feel lucky,” he said. “And I feel lucky to be able to shed light on a show like this to people that’s trapped behind walls that would never get a chance to shed light on that situation.”

Just hours after appearing on “The Tonight Show” last August, Meek was arrested for reckless endangerment after police saw an Instagram video of him riding his dirt bike through New York City. He served five months in prison for a parole violation.

Meek also served as the night’s musical guest. Joined by Jeremih, PnB Rock, and fellow Philadelphia natives The Roots, he performed his single “Dangerous” off his Legends of the Summer EP.
