From “Woo Hah!! Got You All in Check” to “Touch It” to “Arab Money,” Busta Rhymes can’t seem to miss a punch even if he tried. His eighth solo album, Back On My B.S. featuring Lil Wayne, T.I., Pharrell, Mary J. Blige, Jamie Foxx, and Common, hit stores this week.
After a three-year break, Busa Buss is coming back swinging. staging-rapup.kinsta.cloud caught up with the hip-hop veteran in NYC to get his thoughts on going up against Eminem, what he’s listening to, and almost losing his pricey ring overseas.
Eminem’s new album Relapse also dropped this week. How do you feel about competing against Em?
I think Eminem is one of the nicest MCs, period. I’m definitely going to support because I want to hear what he’s doing. I haven’t had a chance to hear it yet and I haven’t heard from him in a long time, so I want to see where he’s at creatively right now.
Who are you listening to right now?
I’m always listening to Wayne, Kanye, T.I., Slum Village’s Fantastic Vol. 2, D’Angelo’s Voodoo… I’m kind of feeling the Drake dude right now. I think his shit is hot.
You recently traveled to Spain and Turkey. Did you have any unusual experiences while there?
We went to this mall to get some McDonald’s in Istanbul, Turkey, and my ring flew off my finger from the third floor all the way down to the first floor. You could look over the rail and see every floor as it goes down. We were looking to make sure somebody could keep their eye on it from the top level to see if somebody picked it up, while my other peoples went downstairs to go get it. Ni**as walked back and forth and didn’t know that the ring was on the floor.
How much is your ring worth?
About $32,000. That was crazy. I’m just glad that I got my shit back and nobody ain’t see it.
