DJ AM was found dead in New York City on Friday afternoon.
Police told TMZ that they found the body of the 36-year-old in his Manhattan apartment at around 5:20 p.m. after a friend reported him missing. Drug paraphernalia was reportedly found at the scene.
DJ AM, born Adam Michael Goldstein, had not been seen or heard from in a few days. One of his friends went to check on him, but got no response after knocking on his apartment door.
His publicist issued a statement on Friday confirming the DJ’s death: “The circumstances surrounding his death are unclear. Out of respect for his family and loved ones, please respect their privacy at this time.”
Goldstein narrowly escaped death in a South Carolina plane crash in September 2008 where four others died. He and drummer Travis Barker were the only survivors.
He stopped tweeting three days ago, quoting Grandmaster Flash in his last tweet on August 25. “New york, new york. Big city of dreams, but everything in new york ain’t always what it seems,” he wrote.
