Freebase

While he records his third album, 2 Chainz plans to drop his fan-oriented EP Freebase. Due May 5, the project includes seven new tracks and marks a return to his hardcore, street-flavored rap.

“It has been a minute since the release of my album B.O.A.T.S. II: Me Time and I wanted to give something special to my fans while I record my follow-up album,” said 2 Chainz. “This is a taste of what is to come, and is most importantly, for them.”

The seven tracks include collaborations with Lil Boosie, Rick Ross, A$AP Rocky, Ty Dolla $ign, and Cap 1, with production from Mike WiLL Made It, Street Symphony, Honorable C.N.O.T.E., Young Chop, and Metro Boomin.

In keeping with the fan-oriented theme, he had his social media followers submit artwork for the Freebase cover via Instagram. He narrowed down the 10,000 applicants to four before making his final decision.

The winning cover features a rare photo of Richard Pryor reclining on a bed, wearing two chain necklaces. In 1980, the stand-up comedian set himself on fire after freebasing cocaine.
