Is an André 3000 album finally in the works? According to Chris Rock, the OutKast rapper is back in the studio.
On Thursday (Apr. 7), the comedian shared a photo featuring Three Stacks, D-Nice, Jack White, Dave Chappelle, and A Tribe Called Quest’s Jarobi White with this caption: “Hard at work on the new Andre 3000 album.”
If the caption isn’t a part of Rock’s comedy routine, then it’s great news for 3K fans. After all, Dre hasn’t released an official solo album. In 2003, he dropped what is highly regarded as his solo debut, though it was actually one half of OutKast’s double disc project, Speakerboxxx/The Love Below.
In January, the “American Crime” actor didn’t seem too eager to talk about specific music plans. “I can’t say that I have a target right now,” he explained. “I’ve gotten in trouble before for saying when or what is coming, so I like to just kind of let it be. I’d like to put out some kind of music project, but we’ll see.”
In any case, André has been crafting new material, even if it isn’t for his next LP. Last year, he recorded with his child’s mother, Erykah Badu, on “Hello” off her But You Caint Use My Phone mixtape. And this year, he joined Kanye West on “30 Hours” off The Life of Pablo. Time will tell if this is good news for music fans or if it’s another one of Rock’s jokes.
